Editable Copies

Buyers may create their own editable Noteflight copies of your score. The composer, songwriter, arranger, copyright notice, and title are not editable for copies of purchased scores. This ensures the score always gives proper credit to the writers and owners of the work.

Adapting Purchased Scores

Editable copies are made available for the buyer’s personal use for the number of authorized performers, and adaptations are only allowed in the Noteflight editor. Purchasing a score on Noteflight Marketplace does not permit buyers to adapt your work using another notation program. All applicable copyright laws apply.

Payouts

Noteflight will pay your total sales commissions every month at a minimum payout amount of $20. Any payouts under $20 will be processed every three months. Payments are made via direct deposit to your bank account or debit card. Commissions are pending until eight days after each purchase, which allows time for the charge to be processed and cleared by the credit card merchant. You may track your pending and current payout amount at all times in your Noteflight account.

Your Scores vs Marketplace Scores

When you place a score for sale, the score is moved from “Your Scores” to the “Marketplace Scores” section in your Noteflight homepage. We recommend making a copy of your score before placing it for sale so that you can retain an editable copy in your account. You will also be able to make editable copies of your Marketplace scores while it is for sale.

Marketing Your Scores

We encourage you to share your Noteflight Marketplace scores through as many channels as you can. Market your scores by linking to them on social media, on your website, or sharing with your email list. The Marketplace tab of your Noteflight user profile provides your own listing of your scores for sale, which you can use to promote all of your works.

Disputes of Arrangements

All arrangements sold on Noteflight Marketplace are subject to disputes of ownership. The score seller is solely responsible for their content. Noteflight does not arbitrate any disputes nor verify the copyright status of any work; instead, Noteflight will facilitate communication between score owners in the case of disputes.

If the owner of an original work or arrangement disputes another score, the disputed score will be removed and its owner notified. By request, the two parties can be put in touch and may resolve their dispute legally. To reinstate a disputed score, Noteflight must be provided with written legal notice from a court or arbitration.

If a score is disputed by a person not claiming ownership or copyright of the work, then the disputed score will not be removed but the score owner will be notified. Only a score or work owner may generate a dispute that results in a takedown of another score.

Noteflight also reserves the right to remove any score from Noteflight Marketplace without notice and for any reason.

Stop Selling Your Score

You may choose to stop selling your score at any time. Any buyers who have previously purchased your score will still be able to use and purchase additional usage of your work.

2. Selling Original Scores

Original Score Commission

You will earn a 50% sales commission when selling an original composition.

Allow Arrangements

You may choose to allow others to sell arrangements of your original work, and you will earn a 40% commission for each sale of an arrangement. If you choose this option, then arrangers may use a purchased version of your score or start from a blank score to create and sell their own arrangement. As the copyright owner, you reserve the right to dispute an arrangement of your work.

If you stop selling your original score where you have allowed arrangements, your song remains available in the score catalog of arrangeable works. Please contact Noteflight Support if you wish to have your song information removed from the catalog.

Score Preview

When placing your original score for sale, you will have the choice of offering either a full-length, watermarked preview or the up to 32-measure, non-watermarked preview of your score. Selecting up to 32 measures will display half of your score or the first 32 measures, whichever is less. The score audio will also playback for the same length as your selected preview.

Title, Credits, and Copyright

Your original score title, composer and lyricist fields, and copyright will not be editable by purchasers. This ensures that you will always retain proper credits for your work.

Ownership of Original Works

You retain ownership of your original work, and selling original compositions on Noteflight Marketplace is non-exclusive.

3. Selling Arrangements of Public Domain Works

Arrangement Commission

You will earn a 50% sales commission for your arrangement of a public domain work.

Arrangeable Song Catalog

You can search for a known public domain work in our catalog to identify the original composition. If it is not listed in the catalog, simply provide the details of the original public domain work. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide on public domain works.

Original Arrangements Only

Arrangements must be created from the original public domain work and cannot be based on an existing arrangement. Selling an arrangement of an existing arrangement is not permitted in Noteflight Marketplace.

Score Preview

When placing your arrangement of a public domain work for sale, you will have the choice of offering either a full-length, watermarked preview or the up to 32-measure, non-watermarked preview of your score. Selecting up to 32 measures will display half of your score or the first 32 measures, whichever is less. The score audio will also playback for the same length as your selected preview.

Title, Credits, and Copyright

When selling an arrangement of a public domain work, the “Lyricist” field in the upper left and the “Composer” field in the upper right of the score should be blank. Noteflight will place the original composer name for identified public domain works in the composer field for you, or give you the option to provide the name if the work is not in the catalog. You will provide your arranger name during the selling process and Noteflight will add this to your score in the upper left.

Ownership of Arrangements of Public Domain Works

You retain ownership of your arrangement of a public domain work and selling on Noteflight Marketplace is non-exclusive.

4. Selling Arrangements of Copyrighted Works

Arrangement Commission

You will earn a 10% commission for any arrangement of an existing copyrighted song

Arrangeable Song Catalog

We have an extensive catalog of arrangeable songs, and you may search for your song to make sure it is eligible to be arranged before creating your arrangement. Not all songs are allowed, and excluded works are also listed in the catalog. You may search and find your song and know if it is eligible or excluded. If a copyrighted work is not in our database and not excluded, you may still sell your arrangement by providing the details of the original work. Please note that the catalog of arrangeable songs is subject to change at any time.

Unique Arrangements of Single Works Only

Only arrangements of single works are allowed. Medleys of copyrighted works may not be sold in Noteflight Marketplace at this time. Arrangements must be uniquely created from the original work and cannot be based on an existing arrangement. Selling an arrangement of an existing arrangement is not permitted in Noteflight Marketplace.

Large Ensembles Restricted

Large ensemble arrangements of copyrighted works are not permitted on Noteflight Marketplace at this time. This includes orchestra, concert band, marching band, and jazz ensembles with 21 or more performers. When selling an arrangement of a copyrighted work, large ensemble formats and the “21 or more performers” pricing option are not available.

Score Preview

When placing your arrangement of a copyrighted work for sale, the visual and audio preview will be set to half of your score or 32 measures, whichever is less.

Minimum Pricing

Minimum pricing is provided for selling arrangements of copyrighted works. These prices are based on the number of authorized performers and are subject to change. When selling your arrangement, you will see the following minimum prices once you select the number of authorized performers for your work:

  • 1 Performer: $3.99
  • 2 Performers: $4.99
  • 3 Performers: $9.99
  • 4 Performers: $14.99
  • 5-10 Performers: $19.99
  • 11-20 Performers: $24.99
  • 21 or More Performers: $49.99

Arrangements of Works Identified in the Score Catalog

When selling arrangements of copyrighted works identified in our catalog, simply identify the original copyrighted song on which your arrangement is based. Noteflight will provide and place the proper title, writer credits, and copyright notice on your score for you. You will provide your arranger name during the selling process and Noteflight will add this to your score in the upper left. Before selling your arrangement, you may leave the Composer, Lyricist, and Copyright fields blank. Noteflight will replace these fields with the proper information and replace your title if it does not exactly match the original song on which your arrangement is based.

Arrangements of Works Not in the Catalog

Be sure to first thoroughly search for your work with multiple keywords to make sure it is not in the catalog. If no match is found you may sell your work by providing all known details of the work, including title, artist, composer, and lyricist. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide on the ownership of the work.

Selling Arrangements Created from Purchased Scores

Some scores purchased in Noteflight Marketplace are eligible to be used as the basis for your own sellable arrangement. This means you may purchase an original work, create an editable copy, make a new arrangement from your copy, and then sell it. Works that are allowed to be used for the basis of your own sellable arrangement are marked “Sellable Arrangement: Allowed.”

When selling your arrangement created from an editable copy of a purchased score, the original title, writer credits, and copyright will be preserved. You will provide your arranger name and Noteflight will place this on the score for you. In addition, a link to purchase the original work will be referenced from your arrangement.

Exclusivity of Selling Copyrighted Arrangements

Arrangements of copyrighted works are only permitted to be sold on Noteflight Marketplace or Sheet Music Plus ArrangeMe. Selling an arrangement on Noteflight Marketplace or ArrangeMe does not grant any additional permission to sell your work on other websites, or in physical printed sheet music, unless you have a direct agreement with the work owner or publisher.
